Should I start with a tune.
What are your thoughts, 1998 camaro v6 speed is off by 10mph. But I notice the needle is resting on the bottom of the cluster at start up idle. Sorry for the upside down picture can't figure this iPad out.

Do you have tires that are smaller than original stock size? Did you swapped the rear end gears? Yes a tune can adjust it if is a different size tire or the gears in the rear were swapped. I'm not sure if is one of those cause because you have the issue at idle so the car is not moving. I'm sure some other member that have experience with hp tuner can clarify if it can be adjusted.

Everything is stock that I know of, ill have to put it in the air and check the gears. With the v6 camaro with auto they ran 2.73 right or did they also run 3.42?

not sure on the size but i think autos are 3.42 regardless. Like i said the issue is presenting at idle so I don't think the gear size matters at this point. It sounds more like the speed sensor might be off or bad.
Did you just got the car or the problem just started?

No we purchased it back in 09 and it has been noted for sometime but I am just now getting some input into what could be wrong now that I have some free time. Have been deployed back to back. So the car hasn't been driven very often. Maybe I can change the VSS and see what happens.

I will wait and get more info before you change the vss.

Sounds good to me I much rather figure it out instead of playing swaptronics. I am going to pick the car up and see if the previous owner swapped the gears not that big of deal. But thanks for responding. Hope some others can chime in when they get the chance.

Your speed is off by 10 mph consistently, or at only a certain speed? If constantly, then there may be an issue with the speedo itself, or the vss. If it's only at a certain speed and varies up and down as you increase or decrease speed, than the issue is with the tune - gears have been changed or tire diameter is different.

The needle resting that low should not be the issue...my old camaro's rested in the same place.
