should i even consider this car?

hey guys. there is a dark blue 2000 ws6 a couple hours away. it has 144,000 miles on it and the guy is asking $7,000.

is this too many miles to consider? the way i see it, its probably highway miles and as far as i know it haas no mods so it hopefully was treated well.

Well befor you make a 7k mistake, check the carfax and get some more info on the ws6, Ie mods, maint records, etc. I personaly dont think miles matter on a vehicle, its all about how it was maintained through out its lifetime. The only thing i dont handle well is Rust, its a pita. Although The Book price is sitting around 8k for fair condition, i would continue to search around and see if you can find a better deal.

Most banks and dealers go by either Kelley Blue book or Nada. I would trust those 2.

do it up man, esp if the 144,000 are highway miles and it was owned by an adult and not a punk kid.

    Better deals are out there.

    I would personally keep looking.

Also, keep in mind that the '01 and '02 got the LS6 intake from the factory if mods are in your future.

Banks and creditors use Nada, although most private party will go through Kbb because it brings in a higher value.

I'm in more of the $6-7.5k range since im paying for the car completely by myself (besides insurance and all of that). however, a 98-99 with 100k is within that range. I will probably just wait. It wasn't my favorite color or anything anyways. If he drops it to $6k or something in the next couple weeks I'll reconsider.

    ^ yeah I think I will.

On a side note, I definitely want scoops. If I buy a car without them, will I be able to buy a hood and paint it to match? I want it to look perfect but somehow I think it would never be because of the paint fading.

If you want the hood with the scoop, wait for an SS.

The hoods aren't cheap and by the time you buy one, paint it to match, and have it installed you've driven up the price to where you could conceivably have just gotten an SS to begin with. (I've heard the factory GM hoods are now over $2k )

The SS also has a nicer looking rear spoiler and nicer wheels.

    Performance is the same though.

You pay more for the pretty.

I was looking for a Z28 and stumbled on my SS for about the same $$ .

    Good Luck!

better looking rears? thats an opinion but the ONLY reason i bought the ws6 over the SS is because i think the rear of an SS is disgusting, including the spoiler

I was referring to Z28 vs SS, not SS vs WS6.

My bad. He was referring to WS6

Camaro vs Firebird is always personal opinion. Different strokes for different folks.

    Want a new car

I'd say anytime you have over 100k miles on a car the worth of the car takes a typical hit due to maintenance items being expected to need replacing. I would say 7k for that car might be a little high, it would have to be exactly what you are looking for and you would need to be in a hurry to buy. Let's say the same car has only 50k miles, would you buy it for 14k ? Just curious, I am think that is close to a fair price IMO.
