Shifting stick moves in manual car?

In the past few weeks, I've noticed that my car makes a weird noise when accelerating at higher rpms ..almost like somethings loose on the engine. I thought it might be the mounts ..but driving home today after work the shift stick started moving with acceleration?!? Not popping out of gear but moving about an inch in an upward way the faster I go. The knob did vibrate a lil more than it should before.. but I never thought too much into it until it started to noticeably move with acceleration!

I googled this before posting, and people had said that its the motor mounts..like I thought before the stick even started to move. Do my engine mounts need replacing? Please help!

I had the same problem before, when under "jack-rabbit" acceleration, the shifter would move up about an inch as well. Turns out, it was the rear transmission mount that was bad, had to replace, the part cost me about $90 from the dealer.

Check the tranny mounts first like dav-02ws6 said

    +1 Tranny Mount,

Tranny mount shot=shifter goes up and down, motor mounts shot=shifter goes right under acceleration and left under deceleration.

Also while you are under there check your torque arm (make sure it's not ripping around the rear, no elongated bolt holes and bolts are tight, my Factory Torque arm and Tranny mount seemed to commit suscide together.

Mine was also doing that. I replaced the tranny mount and Torque arm bushing. Got that stuff from the ws6store fairly inexpensive.

    Appreciate all the help!

I will definitely get the transmission mounts replaced and might have to check the engine mounts as well, in case driving around like that damaged them. It felt like it was falling apart today at deceleration ("excess vibration"), so I drove fairly slowly. Its my only car

The bold is what its doing. But that might be because of the shot tranny mounts like Spaz stated. I'll have them checked out and replaced.

Thanks again for everybody that put an input. This forum doesn't fail to help in any way!
