    service engine problem

so heres the situation. i ordered an SLP ZO6 MAF conversion kit from speedinc.com. when i installed it my service engine light came on.got it checked out and there were 2 codes. one of them was P0171, which is fuel bank 1 lean i believe. the other code was the same thing but fuel bank 2 lean. they turned off the light and sent me on my way to see if it came back. when it did they went in and really didn't tell me anything about what was wrong, just said to call SLP and see if it might be the new MAF sensor. now my light will come on and stay on for like a day, then turn off for a day, then back on for a day and so on.
i was just wondering if any of you have installed this part and had this problem, or just if you know what the problem may be.

the aftermarket MAFs will do that to your engine without further tuning. try to put on your old MAF and see if the problem persists.

ok, now exactly what type of tuning? is it something that my normal mechanic should be able to do or would i have to bring it to a performance shop. cause if thats the case i'll just wait till i get the rear end gears and have them tune and calibrate the speedo at the same time.

My slp maf caused me lean codes and I pulled it back off and put the stocker back on. You wasted your money as I did because this site is always warning to leave the maf alone and I did not see it before I bought either.

yea but i figured it can't hurt to have a little bit bigger MAF sensor. if throwing codes is all i have to deal with its not really a big deal. i'm gonna need a tune soon anyways.

But running lean is bad for the engine so it can be more trouble than it's worth if you cause damage.
