Could be a bad tensioner or a pulley out of alignment. It could also be a damaged pulley. Does it squeek?

i kind of have the same problem but i've only went through two belts so far. originally i found a crack in the belt and she squeeked so i swapped them out and used some belt treatment on the new one. now i dont know if it was the treatment or something else but after a day the squeek turned into a squeel. so i swap the belt out once more but without the belt treatment this time and didn't here anything until a couple of days later when the cold weather showed up. so now she has an annoying squeek for about 20 min and dies down a little. if the belt tensioner isn't torqued down properly could this be the problem, and if so why does it squeek?

What brand of belt are you using? I ended up replacing the tensioner, idler pulley, then the alternator(going bad anyways) and still a squeak. I replaced the gates belt I had twice, then tried a goodyear gatorback and no more squeak since then.

i'm gonna try readjusting the tensioner, if not then i'll go with the goodyear belt. does the tensioner have a certain lubricant that must be used? because with the hood up it pretty much sounds like thats where it's coming from. i don't want to spray wd-40 in there if that will eventually hurt it. sounds like a dumb question but worth asking i guess. i asume grease since its rotational but you never know. i work on helicopters and it's funny to have to ask this about a car.

When you say eating, are you talking about Breaking? Frayin on oneside or the other, If the belt is squeaking its probly time to replace although u can confirm if its the belt by using a lil "Belt dressing". Just use a little on the belt and see if it fixes the annoying squeak.

Dont use belt dressing on a serp belt, thats a no no. I actually wrecks the belt, it was designed for v belts, theres even a warning on the can.

Hey TONIK I went with 98Formy and a few other people's advice on the Goodyear gatorback belt and instantly the squeek was gone. i drove it around town a bit cause this was the case with the others and it came back eventualy after half a day, but then drove it again hard almost a half day later and still no squeek so i'm pretty sure this problem is solved. you might want to try it.
