This seems like a bit pricey...
Just got this email from a local shop with a workup of what ought to get me to about 475/425 rwhp/tq. This seems a bit extreme on the price, particularly the labor. Thats like 35 hours of labor for the install, I had another shop quoting me labor time more in the 15-20 hour range...

You could save a grand right off the top by going with a different set of heads. stage 2 ported LS6 heads can be had for around 1200.

Ya but speed cost money,,,and the ported LS6 heads are a decent bang for your buck,,,,but they won't perform near as well as the TFS heads will.
You're talking about an LS6 head with stock 15* valve angles,,,and I believe the Trick Flow heads come with 13.5* valve angles,,,,may not sound like much but it puts the Trick Flow heads on a completely different playing field. Much like the LS7 heads with 12* valve angles,,,again a completely different playing field.
How much HP do ya want???? And how much do ya want to spend???

Looking it over I don't really see anything completely out of line. That's quite a few parts and quite a bit of labor involved. I see some nickel and dime things you could save money on but for the most part I don't think that looks to bad.

Never hear anything but good stuff about Mike from Rapid Motorsports. The only way to beat the labor charge is to DIY.
I tuned an AFR-headed 402 he built that was in a TA a few years back that is still running very strongly. The cam he picked for the setup worked well.

The guy at the shop thinks that list of stuff should be good for about 475rwhp(so about 550 at the engine) and 420ft lbs.

I really don't see those prices out of line. Looks about right considering everything. Labor isn't cheap nowadays, and speed parts add up quickly.

not outta line, just not worth it imo. could get that hp dependably for way less.

Ya maybe, but HP is a relative term. Too many variables. Good tuning tool, but nobody races dynos. It would be all for not though without a rearend to hold all that,,,and I didn't see one on the list. Another 2 grand right there.

his parts total alone was 8700 and almost 700 in taxes. It costs money to go fast. You have to remember he's getting TFS heads, fast 90/90, and full ARH exhaust. Those parts ain't cheap but they're good quality parts. Not everyone wants to do forced induction. Some of us still like to hear a nice cam thumping in there from time to time.
He will definitely be wanting to upgrade that rear though, I don't see it lasting long with that power on an m6.

I think he was referring more to the guys that just slap a sc on there and call it a day. There's nothing wrong with that IMO but it's apples and oranges compared to the parts list in this thread or an all out FI car. Forged internals ain't cheap either and in the long run you'll pay for a well done FI car too.
