It just happened it won't turn off. The car starts fine. Any ideas? It is a steady light. Not a flashing one.

I'm sure you thought of this, but I'll say it anyways... VATS?

Do you have it bypassed? Have time to run to radio shack, lol?

No I don't have it bypassed. Im not having the starting issue. It is just on all the time. My understanding is that the alram is like in valet mode or something like that. Im still going to get the resistors ready just in case it fails.

I had the light on last year and i got a new key and it resolved the problem.

I just want to know what does the steady light means and how can I fix it.

I will love to get rid of this VATS crap.

I keep finding online a few site that sell you an ebook on how get rid of VATS. anyone tried this?

It appears that a steady ligh means that VATS is disable. So pretty much it is not protecting the vehicle at all.

I might as well try to get a new car alarm and get rid of VATS.

I don't know if the VATS could still through a light or not.

I just figured popping in the resistor would be a quick/cheap test.

My V6 Firebird's light has been on for 3 years,I can't be bothered to fix it.

Its not a true F Body if there isn't some kind of dash light on.

My TA has the ABS INOP light

is not so much about the light been on, is more that the car let me stranded. Is my DD car.

I PMed Cutlass I know he work with GM maybe he can explain me better about the steady light. I mean I think if I get stranded I should be able to put a jumper were the fuel relay goes and then jump start the starter and the car should start and drive until I can get home. I just don't know about the PCM needing the key value even if VATS is disable.

sounds like you are on top of it by checking the fuses and relays. you mentioned having to get a replacement key, which makes me wonder if you might not have some steering column or ignition issue.

just trying to toss more ideas at the cause, not trying to stress you our more...

I didnt mess around the relays and fuses. i just said if i get stranded i can do that.

It just stopped doing it on his own... last time I made a new key and been using it without problems until yesterday.

When they stay on steady you shouldn't get stranded, when its going on and off you may be left on the side of the road eventually.

there are different degrees of vats if you will......you're just not to the no start portion yet but it's coming. Matter of time. Just bypass it and be done with it.

I would just go ahead and do it. That vats system is worthless anyhow. It'll only take you a few minutes really to just bypass it. Because you know that thing will take a shit at the very worst possible time. At least if you're luck is like mine.

what about eliminating all this VATS crap? is there a way? I mean the resistor trick is really just bypassing the cylinder lock wires that are bad.

if i make a jumper on the starter realy and the fuel relay the car should start if the pcm reads the key or resistor right?

Does the PCM needs to see the resistor/key even with those jumpers that I mention before to start the car?

vats is in the bcm.....not sure what's involved to disable it completely really. If you solder those resistors into place though they ain't going anywhere. I've had mine done for years now.

    and that time is:
usually 100miles from the house - no tools
on a Sunday while cruising the back roads - nobody to flag down for help and your cell service has no signal

at night - just because Murphy is at you

and it mysteriously starts to rain

I believe it has to do with the software in the PCM, not just the physical components

Yes I am sure I had VATS delete done on my PCM from Frost.

I bought one of his PCM'S and had it configured to my VIN.
