Security light is on and car still starts and drives fine

Well yesterday my security light came on and never went back out. The car started and was running great. The light is not blinking and I am having no problems starting the car.

So I found the VATS connector under the dash and disconnected it. The car still started. I put my meter on the 2 white wires with my key in the on position and it is reading open. So I think the wires at the ignition cylinder broke but don't know why it still starts even with it disconnected. I also tried the resistor bypass and got no results.

I dont know enough about the security system to keep guessing the problem. I can not get the car scanned for a few more days and it is really bothering me. If anyone has a solution please let me know.

    -thanks

Will a comprehensive performance programer provide diagnostic code defiencies for the VAT or does one have to go to a shop?

I think only dealerships with a Tech II scanner can check for VATS issues.

yes security issues are not government regulated like p0 codes that affect emissions. you need to get scanned by a testical 2

well that sucks.... I was hoping that my dads scanner at work would be able to read the code. I really don't want to take my car to a dealership.

I hear ya. But those Tech IIs are expensive. You could try a local shop and ask if they have a Tech II scanner. But most likely, only dealerships have/use them.

My dads scanner is the snap-on VERUS ... he has no clue if it will be able to read the security but he said the scanner does a little bit more then a standard code scanner.

You could try it. I know when I bought my car, it had a code for an ABS fault. I was told a Tech II could only read that code. I hooked up a SOLUS scanner and it read the code. I was able to make a few adjustments to my right rear ABS sensor and all is good. This was over 2 years ago. So, ya never know if other scanners can read OBD II.

Its in Fail-Enable mode, which usually means it failed after the car was already started and running. And usually it'll stay in Fail-Enable mode forever or until the battery is disconnected or the code is cleared out.
Fail-Enable means a fault was detected, the light is on, but the car will still start. Its kinda like a poor man's VATS bypass

My dads scanner could not read the code .... I left the battery off all night and nothing has happened so now I'm off to find a tech 2 scanner.
