    Security light

So I was at he track and the security light came on, I tried to crank and nothing, no noise nothing. Then I tried again and it turned on. So when I left we had to push start the car (m6) and it ran fine, but the security light was blinking ALL the way home. Any ideas???

Your PASS-II/ VATS is gone or going out. There's tons of threads so do a quick search. Basically you have to narrow down what failed (usually is the tumbler) and either replace it or just bypass the whole system.

Im having the same problem. Im guessing its the key that needs to be changed out. It really sucks because my car is so loud and I turned it off at the drive thru so they could hear me and then the car wouldnt turn back on because the damn security light came on. I then turned my car off and let it sit there for about 2-3 minutes which felt like an eternity until the light went off. When your having this problem the trick is to stick the key in the ignition and immediately turn your car on. When I do this my car will start and while its starting I will see the security light on and then it will stay on. Then it will go off and on as I drive here and there. I usually get screwed when I turn the car off and then need to start it again within a few minutes. Its a pain in the butt because the only people that cant start there cars are the owners. The thieves im sure have a workaround for that anyway.

I should mention that the real trick is to follow severedistortions recommendation. Until you do get it permanently fixed you can use the workaround I have or if you have a hypertech programmer im sure you can bypass it. Im looking to get one of those su*kers soon.

can't bypass it with software. I tried turning it off with edit and it didn't work. I just cut the plug and soldered a couple of resistors to the module side of the plug and plugged it back in. Worked like a charm, took 30 minutes, and about $5.

A hypertech won't do anything....and don't buy one because they're crap. If you want a handheld get a diablosport predator.

The bypass isn't what you're doing...sooner or later you'll just be plain stranded. You haven't been stranded yet because it's probably in the process of breaking...but it'll happen. The bypass is when you disconnect the wiring harness going from the tumbler to the BCM...and you put in a resistor of the same value as the resistor pellet in your key. You'll need a multi-meter to find the value of the pellet and to troubleshoot if this is the problem in your situation.

I will add as a quick note. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CUT THE WIRE!!! All you need to do is insert the resistor through the back till it touches the metal and then use electrical tape to keep it secure.

This way if you ever plan on fixing the problem you still have everything and all you have to do is remove the resistor and plug it back. I pybassed mine only as a temporary fix till I get my part in, since my car is a DD.

Quick Question..... If I go to the dealership and order a new key for $40 would that solve the problem? I dont want to start ripping apart something I havent dealt with before.

If it is the key..YES. If it is the ignition switch then, NO.

I would try to bypass it first. A new switch..from what I have read is a $300 job unless you do it yourself. Which is a biatch.
