    made the switch...

Even though I didnīt see that show I made the switch. I used to put only 20w-50 castrol sinthetic blend and 20w-50 castrol syntec and they both worked fine. Now I switched to 20w-50 royal purple and runs ok, car seems to rev a little faster (really donīt think itīs the oil). The only thing I noticed is the smell of my exhaust, it never smelled like that before. but hey

Mobil 1 for a little longer in the Grand Am since I still have 7 quarts sitting around. After that...not sure. Mobil 1 is grossly overpriced for what you get though. No longer a basestock IV...which means it isn't 100% synthetic.
Royal Purple is okay oil. Big problem is the price....too high.

What kind of VP oil do you use...there's like 10 of them? My application isn't anything with very high hp, but if it's cheaper and better than the Royal Purple I'm running now, I'll give it a shot.

I saw 20w-50 and I was like WTF?!? Then I saw Arizona and it all became clear!

For a grand am I think generic conventional oil would be splurging. Resale on those is a bitch anyways.

Thicker oil to compensate for ambient temps is a myth. Stick with the proper viscosity for two main reasons.
    1) Thicker oil raises the oil/engine temps.....thinner oils cool much better as they carry off the heat better versus a thicker oil the holds the heat and 2) doesn't lube the tighter clearances that a thinner oil does. The thicker for hotter temps is a leftover from back in the day when we all ran single weight oils that had no VII. Stop it.

I used mobile 1 before.. I switch to Royal Purp... And I love it.. I haven't notice any problems or a rise in oil pressure.. Royal purple is said to use synletic which is different from synthic.. It's suppose to allow the parts to move more freely and free up HP.. Just my 2 cents.. I use RP 5w-30 with a K&N filter.. The price is right up their with mobile 1.. But I don't care about the price.. when you got dealer discount who cares....

Synerlec is the old teflon theory....coat the metal with a layer of "something"....Problem is they have to use so little of it as it will clog passages and form clumps that basically it becomes nothing more than a marketing ploy....in other words....worthless in application but neat marketing hype.....Problem with Royal Purple ( and I get it FREE) is the damn stuff shears all to hell...wear metals went through the roof.....what do your UOA's look like? What OCI's are you running?

to be honest with you sarge I can careless about the UOA's and OCI's.. And I'm not trying to put you down or anything.. I read your write up on that and found it intresting.. But to be real with you.. A engine is gonna go when it wants to go.. you can have the cleanest oil and the lowest contents of any chemicals in it.. And it will still go.. The fact of the matter is that once all those metal to metal parts take their toll that's it.. There's not a singal chemical that can prevent that.. If their was then we wouldn't have any cars blown' their engines or they would just last forever..

I understand...some folks dont care at all.....but you are dead wrong about what all the UOA/OCI are about....it is about performance...maximum combustion and reduced friction. Marketing hype wants you to believe $5-$6 bucks a quart for this magic RP formula will give you RWHP.....and that is just bullshit....and I strongly disagree with the mindset "I can put anything in there and it will just go"....the lesser performing oils will not only reduce performance but kill your engine quicker. Why put all this money into your car and kill it with a lesser oil....just doesnt make sense to me.....like buying a million dollar race horse and feeding him the cheapest feed you can get....not caring how long he lives or how well he performs.....but whatever blows your skirt up I guess....

I didn't know this. That's my hometown! May even be enough of a reason for me to switch to it (after some research!).

if not motor has anybody reccommend there tranny oil or rear end oil
I don't know if it's the same one, but there was a hp tv on Saturday where they tested ONLY an engine. They ran some type of oil through it, then drained it, filled it with Royal Purple, and picked up 8/6.

    That's pretty impressive to me.

I saw that episode and tried RP 5-30. The UOA I got back didn't impress me.

I'm actually not sure, they were draining it when I first turned to the show.
