Still setting in my garage awaiting installation. I've been busy with the go fast goodies on the car lately. Should happen eventually and pics will be posted.

I would like to know why is it that only 99-02 has this problem. Did GM change the adhesive for 99 and up. Or is it something in the panel itself.

It is the adhesive. We drove our car to GM Carlisle last weekend. It was outside for 2 days in the hot sun. Upon returning home we had streaks of fluid in several places on the roof panel.

So what is the roof material made of (i have a 2000 z28) and its got little small holes near the side of the roof panel..like 10 holes total both sides,,

I thought one could just sand the roof down,,then prep it for primer then color then the rest of the paint process,,

Would this not work,,,or is the cause below the panel and seeping thru it,,therefore causing a need to replace the entire roof panel,,

The panel appears to be SMC - sheet mold compound. I was going to attempt a fix also until I read up on the problem some more. It would look good for a while, but as the glue has already penetrated the panel it would just be a matter of time.

Junk yard car will most likely have the same adhesive issue too.. If you can remove it without breaking it I would'nt know how since it's glued into place and a flimsy part to begin with.. I'd wager that it will still get destroyed in the removal attempt..

Just get your roof from a 97 or older which didn't have the problem. If the junkyard would let you cut the windshield pillers and past the panal seam at the back, you could use one of those handy little steamers, the kind your wife would use to get the wrinlkles out of her dress, I bet that would seperate it from the rest of the car without damage.

Somewhere on here the model years afflicted by this nasty adhesive are posted. Just a warning -- the panel is extremely thin and may be difficult to remove without breaking it.

Won't make a difference.. It will still happen it's a chemical thing, not a wheather/temp thing..

Hasn't happened yet. My brother-in-law has been too busy to work on my stuff. I'd like to get it done at the start of the driving season -- so maybe in April or May.

If it is the roof panel bubbling then it would be the same issue.
