reman alternator
193,000 miles on stock alternator ,no problems until power steering high pressure hose starts leaking, kills alternator.2 weeks ago i replaced the hose and alternator, autozone was the only place that had a alternator in stock,i installed both parts correctly, former auto technician, and everything was fine until my wife had to go to town today.the power gauge in the car would not read over 13 volts while driving and at red lights with a/c and radio off it would go down to the edge of the yellow warning area.this never happened with the stock alternator.did i get a bad reman alt?any help would be appreciated.

1999 Formula WS6 M6-sold- 2001 Silverado Z71
yeah probablly. I'd hook a meter up to test it just to make sure, then send it back and tell them it has low charging output and you wanna try another. Or get a refund?

called chevy dealer in montgomery on my way to work,i figured i'd take that pos alternator back to autozone and get one from the stealership, they wanted $416.00 for a alternator!then on my way home from work this morning(just walked in the door on already on ls1.com)the car did perfect, with headlights, fog lights,a/c,and stereo on the gauge stayed on the good side of 13 volts.wtf! if the damn thing has trouble charging in the daytime with just the a/c on how the hell does it do great with lights and everthing else on?

I have had bad experiences with a reman alternator as well. However, most places like autozone offer a lifetime warranty on the alternator. It is a pain to replace a second time. I would see if they would allow you to upgrade to a new one. The dealerships alternator will not be much better as far as quality. Also make sure that your PS is not still leaking onto your alternator. That was the same cause for my alternator going out. I also refuse to buy reman crap again. When I looked inside the alternator I could see rust from the previous use... all they did was replace the housing to make it look new.

or try a local rebuild shop. I had great experience and saved lots of $ going that route. Althought his first one failed after several months, he replaced AND installed the 'new' one for free. last one lasted for years...
