rear shocks bottoming out on hard reverse?
Hi guys. I'm just trying to make sure this is a normal thing. My car is not lowered and i put new springs like 1 yr ago. I 1st noticed of this happening when I had my car lowered and if I hit the gas hard on reverse the car starts this hard banging noise in the rear. The car moves but is almost like it is jumping. I'm thinking is wheel hoping.
Now i Had to quickly backout of a situation when I saw a minivan backing up towards me and they didn't stop when I hit the horn. Again the loud banging noise and jumping came back. I recreated the the situation and every single time is the same result.
So is this a normal thing because the car has so much torque? are my shocks going downhill? I have UMI SFC, TQ arm, panhard bar, LCA's and LCA relocation brackets. If i nicely hit the gas on reverse it does happen. Is only when I floor it. Thanks.

Sounds more like an issue with the torque arm.

I would think worn shocks would also show while driving as well.

I think it is most likely wheel hop.
Here's my reasons why - when you do like you did the rear suspension will want to raise up like the the front does when you go forward. Now the difference between the 2 is the front has about 700 lbs of weight in its favor. The rear does not, so as the tires bite they want to hop because the weight is transferring to the front of the vehicle and making the rear "lighter".
Now it doesn't mean your springs/shocks are not going out.

i see where he would think that too. The TA prevents the axle from rotating on itself. If the pinion angle is not correct it would cause binding. But you would feel that through the drive train.

It's quite possible it is simply wheel hop. It was just a thought that maybe the torque arm wasn't properly holding the rear diff. It couldn't hurt to check over the suspension, if you get a chance, just to rule out anything being loose/broken. Hopefully it is just a wheel hop issue

it's wheel hop... check the bump stops that rest on the axle tubes... they are probably dry rotted... i replaceed mine and the problem was gone...

when's the last time you changed your rear shocks? Stock?

sounds like the classic case of wheel hop as already stated.
it simply binds all the suspension components until something gives and wheel hop occurs.
i would imagine in reverse it could be pretty violent in terms of all the shaking, vibration and noise.

Mine wheel hops like this too, so I think it's normal as well. Except I was trying to found out how fast she was in reverese lol.
It's scary b/c it's significantly louder than a forward wheel hop. Maybe b/c it's pulling instead of pushing? Hard on the LCA's and panhard b/ you hitting them from an opposite direction? Pulling the trans instead of pushing it? Tires worn in the opposite direction, so it's similar to fresh tread?

The play in the rearend. The clunk that you hear when you hit the gas pedal.
