Rear floor soaked everytime it rains! Help!
My buddys has a 98' Trans Am with 75,000 miles and T-Tops. Hes going NUTS trying to figure out why he's getting lots of water behind the passenger side side seat everytime it rains.
He thinks because His ac compressor has no drain hose its comming from there. I think its his weather stripping.
Anyone else have this problem? Please help! hes taking the day off work to tear out his seats and all.
Im not much help becuase I was smart enough to buy a 02 Z28 hardtop

I believe that GM had a problem with the weather stripping, and had a tech directive on this, it was many years ago so I am not sure of this.

Funny thing is that the carpet surounding the area is never even damp. It just puddles right behind the seat. If it were leaking from the weather stripping wouldnt there be a trace of moisture to the area??

does it do it if the car is just setting there during the rain, or is it there after it has been driven in the rain?

When I had my sail panel replaced for the bubbling they put the new roof on a little too far back. The t tops seal themselves against the sail panel. There was a lil gap between the t tops and roof left and when I went to wash it water poured in and puddled right behind both front seats in the rear footwells. I'd bet there's an issue right where the t top meets the roof behind it.

Red- 1998 A4 TA
I had this same problem with my old Firebird. The floor in the backseat would flood when it rained. I would soak the car with a hose and could never get it to flood. I literally spent hours spraying every inch of that car trying as hard as I could to get it to leak. I tried every seal, wheel wells, through the engine bay... everywhere. Just like you, I couldn't find a trail of water coming from anywhere. I tore out my interior trying to find one.
I ended up having to drill a small hole under the carpet where it would accumulate, and that solved the problem for me... well, sorta. At least I didn't have to tote around a shop vac in my backseat anymore.
Looking back, the only thing I can think of is that maybe water was getting in through the firewall where I drilled a hole to run the wiring for my amp. On my new TA I filled it with expanding foam just to be safe.

Bright Green Metallic- 1998 Z28 Camaro
I fixed this problem many years ago on my 98 Z28. there was a bead of sealant that the factory didn't apply correctly on the T-top weather stripping. Too long ago to remember specifics, but the proper sealant application is in the GM manual. Go to the weather stripping replacement section and mimic this with a bead(s) of black silicone seal. Or get new weather stripping and then apply the silicone (best bet for permanent fix since you have old rubber). New weatherstripping alone will not fix it. Got to do both. As I recall it was easy to fix, hard to figure out.

Navy Blue Metallic- 2002 Trans Am WS6
I had this problem, but it was from an aftermarket alarm install. they drilled through my firewall and didn't seal around the hole. the water would travel through and accumulate behind my drivers seat.

If your are looking for quality weather stripping try Soff (or Soft) Seal, that have everything.

I have this problem, Usually it happens when I do not remove my T tops for a while. I usually remove them, then put them back in and it seals shut. It could be that they are not in correctly. If I usually have a hard time turning the lock handle it will let water in.

White- 2002 Z28
It could also be the driver side door weather stripping. It happened to me and I was not looking forward to spending the $$$ that GM charges for the door but I did and it fixed the problem. Water accumulated exactly how you're describing.
