Rear alternator bracket won't go back on...

I had to take my alternator off to get tested. It's all good, but when I went to put it back in, I got the wires all connected back together, the front mounting holes are in position, but the rear bolt doesn't line up. It's about a 1/2 inch off. I even threw a new belt on and it fits perfectly. What the hell happened?

Yeah, the top and bottom front bolts lined up perfectly with the idler pulley holes and they went through to the back. The new belt fit perfectly and it ran fine when I started it up and tested it for 20 minutes.

Obviously something is screwed up, but I spent an hour pushing, twisting, pulling and shoving that thing in there and each time ended up with the same result.
