really high idle
I blew the tranny about 2 weeks ago and haven't started it since then. I went out to start it yesterday and the battery was dead so I jumped it from my truck. When it started the volts were around 16.5 volts and it was idling anywhere from 2000 to 3400. What gives? IAC? or something else? Thanks.

It's normal for the idle to be grumpy after a dead battery until it relearns, 2000-3400 sounds high though. Did it settle down after a few ignition cycles?

Just shut it off and start it up again, should run fine. Mine did the same thing when the battery died, no big deal.

I key cycled it twice and both times it did the same thing. After the second time I just lefted it until I could find out what was wrong with it. I don't like it turning that many rpms on a cold start. I unhooked the iac and the idle leveled out but stayed around 2800. I plugged it back in and it jumps like 400 rpm constantly. Between 2800 and 3200. Is that just the computer relearning? I would think that would be high. But I don't know.

Maybe try unhooking the battery for a few minutes, and trying it again. I've had the same prob with a dead battery, but i've been able to shut it off and start it again and it fixed the prob. Good luck

you can also try pulling your engine sensors fuse, it could also be a bad MAF sensor. mine did the same thing after I blew up my MAF during the N2O backfire

if you pull that fuse though and it fixes it it is definatly just a sensor, which is what it sounds like anyways. The factory manual tells which sensors go through that fuse as well

Ok, I will try that and get back to you guys soon. I unhooked the maf and it did the same thing while it was unhooked. But I will pull the fuse and try it. Thanks. Oh, when I unhooked the iac it was smooth, but it idled at 2800 rpms.

If you pulled the wire to the iac and it still idled high then most likely your iac is locked up. Mine did that a few weeks ago and it was locked tight. I think they are about $80.

any update?

Sometimes if there is a bad battery connection, (positive battery terminal) it will cause this. Its kind of like disconnecting the battery and hooking it back up. Make sure all connections are clean and tight!

When I unhooked the iac it still idled around 2800, just smoothly.
SES light is on but the code is p0405. EGR pintle position low. Drove car about 2000 miles with that code. Never had this problem though.
Sorry about late update, been busy. Wife was due yesterday and the baby didn't wanna come out (Stay away from the light) haha and helping my sister move. Going down to the car now to start it. I will post as soon as I check the battery wires and get back up here.

Thinking the same thing, could be another code. Couldn't drive my car with the SES on for that long without checking it at least once a week.

I check it everytime I drive it. I have my own scanner because the ses light is burnt out. That is why I check it when I shut it down after driving it. Only code in the computer is P0405.
I did find the problem. I tried pulling the engine sensor fuse and no change. I unhooked the iac and no change. I pulled the iac and manually pulled the soot covered, dirty as crap plunger out and reinstalled the iac. Lefted it unhooked and now it idles at a whooping 550. Didn't know it would even idle that low. Thanks everybody for their help and their replies.
Could I clean the plunger and the shaft of the iac to fix or do you just replace it?
