    racing, worried about oil

Was just wondering if it's ok to go drag racing on oil that is almost 2,000 miles old? I plan on going to 3k til the next change. About 600 miles has been all highway just cruisin at 75.

It's Pennzoil Platium 5W-30 and a Mobil 1 filter. Oil looks ok, it's yellowish brown, but I burned about 1/3 quart (will 10W-30 help stop the burning?)

Oh yea, car has 51,000 miles on it.

Just IMO I would change it before heading to the track.

I wish I had the money, otherwise it's a no-brainer, I'd definitely change it. I'm just asking since I'm strapped for cash and really wanna go racing with a bunch of my friends, but don't wanna hurt anything

    Smell it!

    Does it smell like gas?

You should be fine if it doesn't smell gassy.

Don't waste anymore money on those Mobil filters.

I did smell it, it smells a little gassy, but nothing I wouldn't expect from used oil. What does unused oil usually smell like? I'm not sure I've ever smelled it before...

and I Just found some website link with a bunch of personally approved oil filters browsing around here

Man.....I'd run & never look back.
You got Penzoil Platinum in there for chrissake.....not some GD dino oil!

What??? You never romp on your machine unless you've just changed the oil??

And go with the 10w.....it has a better shear strength

oh don't get me wrong, I like to romp on just as much as the next LS1 owner I've been to the track before, and now that I've popped my racing cherry, I'm gonna try and get as many runs in the 4 hour night as I can!

Ehhh I'd just go man. If it looks and smells normal it should be fine. If the engine blows from 2,000 mile oil then there probably was another pending problem with the engine. IMO....

I would compare it to shaving my balls and getting my haircut before I go out on the weekend. I want everything to be nice and fresh

thanks for all the opinions guys, tomorrow is the day and I'm headin out to Lebanon with some confidence. Sarge, you put the icing on the cake, I've read tons of oil posts by you and it seems you definitely know your stuff when it comes to oil, I actually found a link you posted to a lab that hands out the supplies for free. I ordered some up and will most likely have this oil tested for piece of mind.

    Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

Anybody else gonna be at Lebanon tomorrow night?!?! Shoot me a pm or something
