Problem with my windshield wipers
Hey! Like my title says Im having some problems with my windshield wipers. This morning while driving to work it was sprinkling a little bit so a put my wipers on for a second to obviously wipe the water off and then I turned them off and instead of stoping and resting at the bottom of the windshield like normal the came back up and stopped at the top at of their cycle and stopped there. So far Ive tried turning the car off and restarting, tried cycling the wipers many times. If you have experienced this and were able to fix it please let me know what it was that fixed or if you may know something that I should check I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

Possibly an issue with the wiper switch or BCM (Body Control Module).

wiper switch sounds a lot cheaper... so I hope it is that! Is there a way to check these things? Thanks!

There may also be a wiper control box -- trying to recall exactly from past threads on here. If he doesn't catch this thread, shoot Smittro a PM as he probably will have a better idea of the potential issue.

Ok well now I am starting to think that it may be the BCM... Now when I click the lock or unlock the headlights go up and then go down and while going down the drivers side continues to run and it sounds like it is grinding the crap out of the gear...

The headlights issue would not be related to the BCM. More than likely, you have a plastic headlight gear that's worn. A simple fix is to simply remove and flip the gear over. A better solution is to replace the plastic gear with a brass one

The headlight noise and the wipers are two different issues. When the wipers don't know where to rest it's usually a bad Wiper Control Module or the parking stop for the wiper blades broke on the motor. The control module is located on the wiper motor. The wiper motor is under the cowl on the driver side tucked under the windshield a bit. You have to take the wiper arms and cowl off to get to it.
The headlight noise is a stripped gear in the motor. You can search and look up how to fix them. You can try the 180* flip trick first. You take the headlight door linkage off and turn the manual knob until the gear rotates 180*. The motor only uses half the gear at a time and the other side should still be good unless someone has already done this. They sell replacement gears cheap in the HELP section of most autoparts or you can buy a replacement brass gear online that won't wear out like the factory one does. If rotating the gear doesn't work I recommend just buying the replacement motors from an autoparts store as most of them have a lifetime warranty and they're not all that hard to swap out the complete motor.

As knight stated the BCM will not effect your head lamp motors.
An issue with the BCM can effect the wiper pulse board though it's usually preceeded by issues with power windows, radio, power locks etc.
However the wiper palse board can fail @ any time.

The problem may be similar to a typical problem on Impalas. My 2002 Impala had a bent tab. I straightened it out and the park mechanism worked again.
It could also be a broken spring that wraps around the park mechanism. (see photos)
Here's a link to the pictures at the Impala Forum:

I replaced the headlight gears with the brass ones. Not hard to replace. It might be more expensive but they will last you a long time if not forever. I installed them 3 yrs ago and not a single issue since then.
