    problem idling

so this morning i started my car, and it died immediately. confused, i tried it again, and gave it a little gas to hold the rpm at around 1000 rmp, and checked all my gauges. everything looked fine (except for the SES light, which ive had for a while, i need an 'crank re-learn procedure' done. im going to check my codes at lunch to see if anything else was thrown). i let off the throttle again, and the engine just died. no funny noises or anything. i did the same thing one more time, except i held the throttle a little long, and it finally idled around 500 rpm.

as the car warmed up it acted more normal. this morning was cold, but not the coldest of the year yet. another thing i noticed was that at idle there seemed t be more fumes (no cats) than usual.

does this indicate a problem with the 02 sensors?

could be a slight vacumme leak as well. my exploder acted like that when it was cold outside. it turned out to be the intake manifold gasket. when it was cold out the gasket would leak. when the engine warmed up the material expanded and sealed it up.

There is a little motor in the IAC and sometimes the carbon builds up and makes it stick. If this is your problem a good cleaning will fix it. I have never seen one actually go bad so they usually just get dirty.

Unplug it first. Then take the two torx screws out and the valve comes out in one piece.

Simply spray the hell out of it, everywhere, with MAF cleaner or Sea Foam spray or WD-40.

Then spray inside the port where it goes. Black crap builds up in there and that black rubber piece on the valve leaves a gummy residue in there. You can twist a rag and stick it in there too to get the crud.

Also pull it out real slow to make sure the spring doesn't pull out.
