PowerMaster Starter Oops...
I was working on my PowerMaster 9400 starter yesterday, and I noticed the solenoid was rotating inside it's housing "just a little." I figured that a bolt, or screw, had sheared somewhere, and decided to pull it out. Big Mistake! There is a funny looking lever (about 3" long in brass with a slight pair of bends in it). It popped out and I'm not 100% sure which way it goes in. Can't find any help on their web site, maybe somebody here knows how it goes in....

Looks like the lever clips in at the back of the solenoid and that is what moves the starter gear to engage the flywheel. The other end of the lever should insert into the body of the starter.

I did a search for exploded views of starters and I found this:

Might have to also use your fingers as your eyes to see how that lever sits in the starter as I see the lever has a notch in it. Don't know if that notch acts as a pivot point, however. Hope it helps.

I'm starting to think the notched end of that plunger goes into the starter assembly and the other to the solenoid.

I heard from PowerMaster Support, and the best way to fix it is to pull the starter motor off the housing, and then insert the lever from the bottom up. I've got it done, just a matter of forcing the parts back together again (not easy). By the way, the lever doesn't move anything, it's a contact for power to the motor.

Certainly looked like a solenoid lever -- guess we learned something. Thanks for the update!

Well, you might be right, but it doesn't look like it does much.
