hey guys, i just replaced my powersteering pump do to a leak and the new pump is whinning really bad with increased rpms. I properly bled the system and the whine is still their. and i also made sure none of the lines were contacting the engine or anything. what do you think did i just get a bad pump. it seems like a good peice. it is a A-1 cardone reman pump. I dont know. i know i did everything right. what do you guys think?

May have to bleed the system again. Is the fluid bubbly?

If the fluid is aerated then let it sit for an hour and then drive it again and see if it whines. If the fluid looks great and the pump whines, then yes its probably a bad pump

Ensure you tighetend Both lines, the suctions and the High pressure. If your pulling in air then you will get the wine.
Like said above check the fluid for aeration and you may have a bad pump. I just went through two pumps on my Dodge ram. Buying Reman pumps are a shot in the dark...

well i checked the lines and they are all tight, and the fluid looks fine no bubbles but the whine is still their, and it was their from the first startup after the install. so it must be the pump. I agree with reman ANYTHING being a shot in the dark but i really dont have a option. i dont think gm has them new anymore, i checked GM Parts Direct and they only have a seal kit available, as well as other part suppliers. so i guess i am stuck with the reman pumps. unless i went with turn one but i cant afford that right now.

Here's the part number for the full pump assy. Note that it's cheaper from the dealer than from the parts house.

Did you use P/S fluid to fill it and not trans fluid?

huh, thats a first the part is cheaper from the dealer than the warehouse. anyways thanks, i think that is what confused me i saw it listed as a pump kit and assumed that it was a reman kit. anyways i got another reman from advance auto, im gonna give it a shot and if it doesnt work i will just have to pull up the extra cash and get a oem one. thanks

I had the exact same problem with the power steering pump in my 1999 chevy truck. it
had a whine after a reman. pump was installed. The only thing that stopped it was flushing it out and adding vavoline max power steering fluid.

Did you use GM power steering fluid when you flushed it?
