The passenger side wiper is gone, and I should be able to get the drivers side working again, but it will be a task... It is the JR...

I did not read all the responses...so if I repeat give me a break.
Engines are air pumps. Air in...mix some fuel...light it off....air out.
More air in and out the more power you put down. I get it.

Porting TB's are good when done in conjunction with intakes/heads etc.
Your eliminating the TB from restricting air requirments.....after other mods. Build up your motor you gotta increase fuel/air capacities or you starve your motors capabilities.

So a TB port by itself is not a bad thing but really not going to benefit you all that much....as your motor is not requiring any additional air....

Like putting 10 lbs of shit in a 5lb bag. After you get a bigger bag then lets talk

Back (way, way back) when my car was cam/headers/LSX 78 intake I swapped in a stock ported TB. Resulted in approx .15 ET improvement. I'm still running that same TB today.

Yes. I'm usually skeptical of little mods like this, but I figured for 50 bucks I couldn't go wrong.

So I tried the guy on ebay, the one with the girl with the great rack holding up the TB. The guy was great to work with, I got the TB super quick from him, and itreally as a great job. Plus it wasn't an exchange, he sent me a ported one, then I sent him back my old one, so the car wasn't down for more than the 20 min it took to swap the TB.

I noticed a diff right away, before even driving it. Sitting in park, it seemed to rev faster.

When I took it for a ride, I noticed an improved throttle resonse, and it also seems to pull harder on the bottom end. I don't know about track times, I haven't gotten a chance to get to the track since installing it, but I'll give it a shot in the spring.

I'm really not expecting an ET improvement, but like I said, the throttle response feels MUCH better so that alone was well worth the price.

I am glad this thread exists. I have been searching online and eBay for either a ported stocker or 80mm. I have been looking at 85mm pieces as well. Once I get my car back, I plan on JBA headers to keep the warranty valid on the new motor and I want to see if I can get more RWHP with a larger TB to compensate for the lost HP from the cam in the old motor.

I'll say No they are not worth it.

When my buddy and I modded our cars (my 99 vs his 98) we had the exact same mods:

    SLP Lid
    1 3/4 Headers
    TSP X-Rumbler True Duals
    Frost Tune

From 35mph - 150mph, we stayed exactly dead even (obviously)

After that I got an LS6 intake and S2 Performance S3 Ported TB..

35 to 150mph again, we were dead even still. So no I don't think it's worth the $75 or whatever you end up paying
