Pinging,Detonating, Preigniting

Hey guys,
This is a 2001 T/A with m6 with 70k miles Pretty much stock FlowMaster cat back and hyper tech pp. When under heavy load in any gear we get pinging been using 93 octane. I've read alot of posts and seems to be a common problem. I am going to try taking out the power programmer and see if the condition rids itself due to a change in the timing curve. but i was wondering could this problem be so common because of no egr being installed on these cars. If im right the egr was meant to lower combustion chamber temps to reduce nox which in turn would probably reduce the chance of detonation. Does any one have an earlier year ls1 with the egr that has this problem. just a curiosity i guess. thanks

Carbon buildup. Get some seafoam. Yes handheld tuners alot of the time cause pinging because of too much timing advance.

Uninstall the programmer and I bet it clears up. Carbon build up like occamaroz said could be another cause.

I have a 99 Camaro with the egr and it pinging at wot over ~5000 rpm on 91 oct. gas. I also have a programmer(Diablosport). Is it better to remove the diablo tune to avoid pinging?? for the carbon deposit .. any suggestion?
