well i was running premium in my Z until gas prices hit $4.00 (it was my daily driver) and I've just been running 89 since...I barely drive the car now at this point and my dad who works at a chevy dealer has told me 89 is just fine for the motor and putting 92 in is a waste because the car just burns the higher octane

yeeeeeaaaahhhhhhhh im gonna have to agree here. sorry to say it man but ur pops is feedin u bad info. there is a reason why the lil note on ur gas door and the manual says "premium unleaded only". anything under this will cause ur motor to retard timing, loose performance and also knock. that being said... is saving that extra $1.50 every time u fill up worth it even know useing lower octane will give u worse gas mileage making that $1.50 meaningless? i guess its ur call man... not my car

I've always used BP and never had any issues with any of my vehicles. I've recently been using Shell in the SS though.

Wow - No Arco on the list. My Pop has been buying it for years saying it was as good as the rest. I've been telling him not. I'll have to pass this along.

Chevron - Shell - Costco (only buys from top-tier) for me.

    Lately - Shell
But, for the longest time Costco and Chevron.

All with the S/C ... I think the intercooler actually helped my situation. With Chevron I'd get just a hint of detonation. But, with a good tune and the S/C with intercooler I don't hear anything.

Switched from mobil 93 to shell 93 and noticed a HUGE difference in gas mileage and performance... The extra 2 miles to the gas station seems a lot more worth it at this point. Shell is usually the exclusive gas for my car, unless its running on fumes and i have no choice.

I never let mine get below a 1/4 tank anymore. Not good for your pump and all the stuff on the bottom of the tank clogs up your filter quick. just my .02

    oh dear lord, lol.

as far as track times, i dont see there being just a HUGE difference. But even in my 3.8, i can tell my car runs smoother on 93.

I also did the math, and I get more mileage out of premium, enough more to pay for the extra 20 cents a gallon.

so that comes out to what, 2.60 more per tank, which is less than 1 gallon, and i get about 40 more miles out of that same 13 gallons, so spending the extra 2.60 ends up saving me about 5 in the long run, so it pays for itself twice over.

Thanks for the link to the top tier stations Sarge. Problem is the only one around this area is Shell and at least 10 miles out of the way normally. It does run better on it though and they have 94 octane at one of the stations.
