    "performance" power steering?

    Hey all,

I recently have blown a line or seal in my power steering gear assy. I was spec-ing out parts prices from online GM parts dealers when I noticed that there was two available gear assys.... a "performance package" and a "standard package".

Does anyone know what the difference is? The pricing was very similar, in fact, I think the "performance" item was a couple dollars cheaper.

Are there any autocrossers, or enthusiants, who have a recommendation on what I should do for replacement? Is there any aftermarket companies with a stronger replacement? I do intend to really beat the steering up on a few road courses.

    Thanks for the advice!

Oh, also... is this something I could replace in my driveway "speed shop"? Or am I better off sending it out to a garage?

...it can be something you can do in your drive way....if you have the right tools....for example..the power steering pulley puller...oh and the only performance i can think about regarding the power steering is not having one at all....(free pulley!) but thats just retarded(if its a street car).....you should be able to do it yourself

Whereas I was tempted to do the pump, the problem lies in the gear assy. (it may be easier to just call this the steering rack) .... so I don't think I will need to take the PS pulley off for that.... correct me if I'm mistaken?

Sorry, old comedian joke. He then says "leave my personal life out of it" after being told he had "blown a seal". Just remined me of it in your original post.

Oh, alright, that makes sense! I was starting to think I said something foolish, i.e. everyone blows a seal or two on the late model F's and they're a weak point, and everyone but me knew it..... OR that for some reason beyond me they never go at all.....
