    PCV Valve Replaced, but..

I just replaced my 2001 WS6's stock PCV valve with the updated "fixed orifice" (part #12572717) design. The swap was very easy. However, the new valve felt so loose in the housing that I decided to zip tie it tight. The new valve would come out pretty easy just by pulling my fingers. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Here's the install.

I started the car afterwards and it ran fine. I felt no air leaks with my fingers. Regardless I am still worried I tore the housing where the ground connects, only I can't see behind it.

edit: I had a second look behind it using a mirror and a flashlight. Everything looks right. I can only wonder why it felt so loose.

Is the new PCV smaller then the old one? Or maybe the rubber housing is getting old, oil soaked and has expanded somewhat?

They appeared to have the same circumference. If anything the old housing has gotten old, and removing the old valve stretched it a tiny bit.

I don't have any good ideas other then seeing if the dealer has that housing. Someone on here might have another solution for you.

this got me thinking, how often should you replace the PCV valve? How much does it cost? Can an amateur mechanic do it?

All but the most incredibly inept person can replace the PCV on a LS1 engine. It is amazingly simple. Check out www.installuniversity.com if you want step-by-step instructions.

If you buy it from a dealer expect to spend $9 or so. You can find it for less online, but then you'll have to pay shipping and wait for it.

Replace your stock one when it is gunked up (when it no longer rattles) or if you want the upgraded valve that is supposed to "fix" part of the oil consumption on the LS1 engine.

Now that you brought this up, I just remembered that I ordered one and never installed it. I will this weekend and let you know if I have any issues on my T/A with 14,000 miles on it.

Not too bad but I'd rather have the nicer looking OEM setup if its still available from GM.
