    Exclamation Parking brake(e-brake)

Has anyone changed the shoes on these and how big of an issue is it... mine sqeeks and you have to click in pretty high up for it to lock... and i tend to pull it while driving around corners etc etc... Anyway Im getting new rear brake rotors and pads soon and i want the brakes to be 100 percent since i replaced the front rotors and pads last night.
.. Im getting new plugs...wires... tires..lid... and decals after this...
nothing beats a good brake job first tho

The ebrake is just a drum brake set-up, inside of the disc rotor. These almost never get wore out unless you do things like putting the ebrake on around corners to do toyko drift. I you dont know how to adust them then you better goto a mechanic to get it done.

Nice, great Idea... btw... PepBoys and Advanced both said...the computer didn't show any "Pads" for a Drum inside the Disk at all... so that confused me

Advance has them under "Brakes > Parking Brake Shoes". The guy was probably looking in the subcategory "Brake Pads: Rear" and therefore couldn't find them. They are quite expensive if I remember right, something like $70.

Yes, front and rear pads are about that much. The e-brake shoes are much more expensive for some reason, though.

Huh???? There are no brake shoes for the parking brakes on these 4th gens. Its simply is a cable that uses the pads that are already there. You apply the brake and it uses the existing caliper/pad assembly.

You are thinking of the older setups,,,,something like what is used on my 71 corvette,,,,it actually has tiny brake shoes inside the rear rotor/hub assembly,,,,pain in the arse to work on,,,,and if not used on a regular basis they tend to freeze up,,,common problem which is why I think GM got away from this design many years ago.

That is correct,,,I have both an LT1 and an LS1 F-body,,,,both use the more conventional caliper/pad assembly for the e-brake.

I saw a Grand AM GT same year as my car...that had that exact assembly in the back...that's why I thought mine was the same

You know what you are right...I completely forgot that, and I should have known considering I took the entire rear apart to have the gears set up

It did say they they had shoes for it at the Advance Auto though...probably just one of many errors in our system. I'll have to check it next time I'm in and have it fixed if its still listed.

I just keep getting more and more confused... I mean... I'm probably just gonna lift my car tomorow...and take off one of the rear wheels and scope it out for myself... and see who's right!

So your LT1 and LS1 F-Bodys have the same break setup??????????

Are you sure? You should double check cause 97 was the last year to use the caliper for an E-Brake. 98 on up use a drum setup for the E-Brake!!
