Black- 1999 Camaro Z28 (SS kit)
P0430: 2nd Bank not efficient..could this be prob
I have erased this code for years. It will come back every once in awhile.
I did the following to my car:
-Went from 5/30 to 10/30 oil
-Changed fuel filter
-Put nitrous back on which means I removed the schrader valve
Now the car seems like it has a "miss" when I am in the wrong gear.
If I start in second it has that "miss" you can hear and feel
If I am in 5th when I should/could be in 3rd and I give it some gas, that "miss" comes back...hesitation.
P0430 did come on yesterday, which I erased with my handheld OBD II, but the "miss" is still happening. The code has not come back on again, YET.
Is my O2 going?
Is my passg #2 CAT bad?
Was my fuel filter put in wrong?
Can diff viscosity oil cause this?
Can taking the schrader valve out cause this?
Are my wires/plugs going bad?
I am not sure what this might be?
Thanks,

gm extended the warranty on the cats to 10 years 120k miles or something like that and that code is for a cat so I would talk with your local dealership about getting it replaced. The miss is probably seperate of that issue. How many miles on your plugs and wires? That's probably the first place I would start looking depending on the mileage and years on them.

Look up the code description/diagnostics for your year at gearchatter.com, might not be the miss since it's been happening for a long time. Unfortunately think the extended cat warranty only applies to the 00-02 F-cars.

Thanks for the info, but I know last time they said they would not warranty it.
Anyway, I would think plugs/wires too, but it is just to strange on timing of changing:
oil from 5/30 to 10/30
fuel filter
schrader valve removal
I would think it must relate. Never did this stuff before?

It just started doing it after I:
-Changed oil from 5/30 to 10/30
-Changed Fuel Filter
-Took off Schrader to install NX 150 Wet
It might be unrelated.
It might be a cat clog.
It might be plugs.
The prob is this list could go on forever. Has anyone ever got this strange hesitation that feels like a skip or a miss in lower than desired gear??
Thanks,
Rich

I had the same code...
I had the same code come up about 2 months ago. I brought it to the Pontiac dealer and they replaced the passanger side cat for free. It is covered for 10 years / 100000 mile by GM.

No that code just means you need a new cat converter...thats it. it basically means the cat converter just isn't cleaning up the exhaust like it used to. There are conditions that can cause damage to the cat converter like a misfire left unfixed for a long time. So I would just diagnose the misfire seperately.

I'm gonna have to look this up and see if I can find it in writing somewhere. I've heard 8/80k, 10/100k, and 10/120k on the warranty. The last place I saw it said 10/120k and seemed like a pretty reliable source but wasn't from GM's mouth by any means. I'm curious as hell to see it in writing from GM exactly what this warranty is. Hell, I haven't had cats on my car in years.

I've worked in the service department of a GM dealership for 8 years and the only one I've ever heard of from GM was 8/80k.
But I was curious and did a search on the Service Information website that we use in the dealership and found a GM Special Policy. Here it is in writing:

Some customers of 2000-02 Chevrolet Camaro and 2000-02 Pontiac Firebird model vehicles, equipped with a 5.7L V8 (RPO LS1 - VIN G) engine, may experience a failure of the left or right catalytic converter.
Special Coverage Adjustment
This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. The repairs will be made at no charge to the customer.
For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after November 27, 2006 are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. Funny this came up. I threw the same code 2 days ago after running at the track. My car only has 15K on it so I didn't it much thought and just deleted it.
If it does again soon I may check into more.......2000 NBM WS6

No as the Special Policy Bulletin states just 2000-2002 are covered. 98s and 99s fall in the standard 8/80k and since they are 9 and 10 years old they are out of warrenty by time.

I agree...1998 and 1999 are only good for 80k according tomy local dealer who denied coverage last year.
I guess I will replace the cat when I find a cheap one on the board. I passed CA smog, so it must be doing an okay job.
It is just strange. After switching from 5/30 to 10/30, putting a new fuel filter on, and taking off the schrader valve to hook up my NX 50 wet, the car now has two probs that are noticeable:
-knocking at the top of each gear
-when I start in 2nd from a stop, you can feel the miss
The miss in later gears seems not to be noticeable after a few WOT runs yesterday?
Maybe I just have a bad plug/wire somewhere. I will have to check these and see if I need to replace them.
I will keep you posted if it is related to the code especially.

hehe, I'm not sure. Probablly not but you could play dumb and see if they would. Or you could tell them the cat was rattling or plugged up so you gutted it as a temporary fix and now you heard about them being under warrenty and want it replaced.

Guys I just had my right cat replaced about a week ago. Kept throwing a P0 430 code. Took it back to the dealer and I had 1 month left on the warranty.
Again my car is a 2000 with just under 16000 on it. Warranty is 8 years or 80000 or so I was told. Got it fixed at no charge to me....
