P0420 & p0430
I just bought a 2001 SS two days after bringing it home the check engine light came on, my hubby gutted the clogged converters and changed four o2 sensors. He reset codes with code reader and i cant get rid of P0420 and P0430, my question is will they stay on as long as the converters are gutted? Do i need to have them on the car to get the light to go away to go through NJ inspection? Can anyone help?

buy new cats or get the rear O2's tuned out.Simulator's are a waste of money.
There is a policy through G.M. were they extended the warranty on convertors that may apply to your car, depending on mileage, but the dealer is not going to warranty them if they've been gutted out.

Thanks guys, I bought new cats I thought that it may be best to keep it the way it is supposed to be I guess. Now hopefully once they are installed and the computer is reprogrammed it will be ready for inspection!

Suggestion: If you are particularly irritated by another member's posting habits and are constantly fighting the urge to flame them, you can click on that person's profile, and select "Add to ignore list." This will make that person's posts invisible to you.

I know you're messing around, but APS turbo kits have MAJOR problems with their head units. They are off-shored now and are produced in China. They have problems with cracking with heat. As far as I know, they stopped manufacturing the turbo kits for the LS1 due to this problem. That was about 6 months ago or so. Not sure what has changed since then, if anything.

You should have inquired about the codes BEFORE hacking up the converters. GM would have replaced them for FREE.

Be sure to do full driving cycles after you replace the cats - if you do a search there's a write up on GM driving cycles. The system needs to read ready in order to pass inspection.
