    oxygen sensers

today my car started missing really bad nd my check engine light came on. so i took it to auto zone to scan it and they said i have bad 02 sensers and an irotic miss-fire. can 02 sensers make it miss-fire? and when i first start it it misses but aftyer maybe 2 mins of driving it it drives fine (check engine light still on) so if i replace the 02 sensers will it fix it or whats up?

    thanks for any help

how many miles on your plugs? If they're original plugs I'd say change those and wires first. Sounds like that'll fix your problems. What codes were pulled?

Can you post the code(s)? They told you all 4 were bad?

The car will run like crap and get really bad mileage if the front bank are shot. The rear bank you can replace with O2 Sims, cuz they don't affect the computer at all.

Did you wash the car and it started happening? Have you put headers on the car recently?

Yes, go back and have them read it again since the light is still on - then post them.

These are the little things that should be included in your original post.

It's probably related to the engine degreasing. Maybe some plug wires shorting out because of the water or oil. Did you get the codes erased and it came back? Get the code erased after reading them again and write down what they are. Open your hood at night in the dark and look for sparks coming out from the wires. The O2 code could be a false one because of the misfire. Also be aware that it's possible to clean O2 sensors-search for this one.

Did it ever occur before you did the degreasing?

Before cleaning them or spending any money get the code(s) read and post 'em.

In other words. There's a very strong chance it has absolutely nothing to do with your O2 sensors. Get the codes read.

Most likely it was caused by water getting in the spark plug boots from your degreasing. Pull the boots and clean them and the plug insulators. Apply an appropriate amount of dielectric grease to the insulators and reassemble.
