what brand does gm recommend for the rear and trans? I have mobile 1 in my tranny now. I noticed one day when it was really cold it was a little stiff goin into 2nd and 3rd gear even after the car was warmed up.

use dex VI from your dealer. good stuff, also just get their synthetic rear end lube 75-90 like mentioned above. it has a grape scent so it must be good but really it'll be fine

Do not use dex VI in a t-56! here are a few clips from various TSB's:
MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND TRANSFER CASES
The content of this bulletin does not apply to manual transmissions or transfer cases. Any vehicle that previously required DEXRON®-III for a manual transmission or transfer case should now use P/N 88861800. This fluid is labeled Manual Transmission and Transfer Case Fluid.
Recommendation/Instructions:
Manual Transmission fluid part number 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada) is currently available through GMSPO. Current and past model vehicles listed above with either a manual transmission or transfer case that REQUIRE Dexron III should use the above listed manual transmission fluid. This fluid is a direct replacement for Dexron III in manual transmissions and transfer cases. DO NOT use Dexron VI in place of the manual transmission fluid in any manual transmissions or transfer cases as a failure may result.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

to the OP just run regular cheap DEX III in the tranny, and whichever 75W90 you want in the ass end. change them once and a while and you'll be fine.

i was just curious if there were any lubricants out there that performed any better than the others. I have mobile 1 dex III in the tranny that I put in last summer while I had the car raised doing the header install. the sticker on the tranny just said dex III. so I just went with mobile 1 being that I use it in the motor all the time. like I said above I just noticed a little struggle shifting into 2nd and 3rd in cold weather that I never noticed before. not a big deal though because I rarely drive in the cold months. It just made me think that maybe I should look into something different that may shift smoother in the cold.
