I'm just wondering if one would be better off with straight 30w in the summer if your doing a lot of city driving and the occassional hard romp.
He does say he uses 10-30w all year round, so my answer prolly lies there.
Quit over thinking things for gosh sakes!

Nice score, is the rebate from PP or Kragen?

ywp my work car, to be honest i think its lwaking from the heads, oil pan and by the timeing chain.

why do you say thicker? dont know oil that much.. would that slow down the leak or something, but wouldnt that also make my motror work harder.

i want the less strain i can on the motor till it dies which looks like maybe in a year

Damn, all three? Shit, you got bigger problems than worrying about the motor having to push through a little thicker oil. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say at 270,000 your not all that worried about it, if it died tomorrow.

But yes, with it leaking like a sieve, you want thicker oil in it, not that it will stop those leaks, in this case it's a little like sticking your finger in a dam, but it would help...a little, you might go down to leaking only half a quart a week...maybe. You could try a 10-40w certainly wouldn't hurt it right now. Have you tried any kind of fix a leak, STP makes one, don't know how effective it would be in this case, but at 270,000 you have nuthin to lose. I'd be throwing any kinda fix a leak stuff I could find in it.

thanks for your help, but its been that way for about 2 years now and a lil worse this year just worried about changing stuff bc it seems to be fine if you top it off every other day, but i see what your talking about..

but the owner before me said he would put any oil that was on sale in it ( and wieghts ) the manual calls for 5w30 would going 10w30 be any better?.

It's really not gonna help enough to make an obvious difference, what is cheapest is probably the way to go here, it's just leaking too fast.

mobile is still good, but not great like thye used to be, there not 100% syn, like PP, plus there still the same price as they were the best which they should be lower .

they were the best/great at one time not to long ago, then got marketing crazy and got to big and cocky and decided that they could sell some OK stuff for the same overpriced stuff.

PP is not man made either, it has a different addpack though, which from tests done by Sarge and others, informs us that not only does it outperform M1, it is much cheaper.

Amsoil makes a man made synthetic that is easily obtainable online, but is very pricy.

Not true, "real" synthetic oil is a lot better than dinosaur oil, that is a proven over and over again hard core fact. It is expensive to make though.

What is bs is calling dino oil synthetic oil and selling it at the price of real synthetic.

Mobil I is a Group III oil (highly processed oil from the ground) and they are selling it as if it was, at a price as if it was, a Group IV completely man-made synthetic oil.

That is where the rip-off comes in friend.

Those that buy Mobil1 are getting ripped off plain and simple.

Sarge has shown that consistently the much cheaper PP outperforms M1.

Now what I'm wondering is how PP compares to Amsoil's real Group IV synthetic, would a UOA show enough of a difference to warrant the price?

PP's results seem so good as to make me highly doubtful, but I don't know.
The way I see it, we pay a helluva lot of money for our cars, and to many of us, they are our pride and joy. We also like to get on these cars, it's self evident then as to why it's a good idea to know well...what your putting in it.
