Turn left at the third SNOW bank, and turn right and travel past 5 more snow banks, and the WalMart that sells PP will be on the left!

Amsoil synthetic 10-30w with KN filter. How often should I change the oil 10K like the label says? Thanks

    JayTA98,

    10W-30 Amsoil oil change intervals:

What are your driving habits like? Do you drive more than 10 miles at a given time? Is your car modified? Does your car have more than 100,000 miles on it? All these are factors as to how long you can run the Amsoil. I’d suggest staring at 5,000-miles and then do used oil analyses (UOA) to determine how far you can go beyond that.

    K&N oil filter change intervals:

“Our oil filters are covered by a limited warranty to be free from defects in materials and workmanship when installed and replaced using engine and equipment manufacturers recommended service intervals” - http://www.knfilters.com/oilfilter.htm

Whatever GM recommends for oil filter change intervals; that’s what K&N recommends. So for example, let’s say you find through your UOAs that the Amsoil 10W-30 can live in your car without issue to 10,000 miles. If this is the case you probably would have to change your K&N oil filter two to three times. Again depending on what the GM specs are. What does your owners manual say as far as oil changes are concerned?

Well I've been using Mobil1 full synthetic in all my cars for years, but I think I read somewhere that they changed their formula and aren't as good as they used to be. Is this true? I don't mind spending a little extra to get good quality.

I use 10/30 weight since I live in a warm climate along with a Mobil1 filter. I change every 3,000-4,000 miles...

Itís been said but not confirmed that Mobil 1 reformulated their synthetic motor oil after they lost their industry challenge to Castrol Syntec. In a ruling released April 1999 by the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus, it was determined that Group III base stocks could be labeled as synthetic. Since this ruling, many independent sources have said that Mobil 1 reformulated to a Group III/Group IV blend as opposed to their previous and more costly Group IV/Group V formulations. Iím not saying this isnít true. I just havenít seen any well documented proof of it for myself. And obviously Mobil 1 wonít confirm that itís true.

For more on motor oil base stocks, click on this link for a complete description of Group I, II, III, IV, and V base stocks.

Also consider that even at 100 degrees F, an 0W-30 motor oil will provide a little bit better protection at start-up over its 10W-30 counterpart. 0W-30 is an all season motor oil.

Royal Purple has shit for shear strength & costs out the ass.

Read the Used Oil Anaysis sticky at the top of this section for the REAL info.
