Sarge...I read, got some recommendations and purchased Torco MTF for my MM6 in a 98 Z28. After reading up it appears that the MM6 wants Dexron III ATF. Did I buy the wrong stuff? Should I go with the Torco ATF instead which states itís a Dexron III alternative? I haven't installed it yet so I can hopefully return it for ATF if you think the MTF is bad...

    Thanks...

Well the "M" in MTF stands for Marine...as in boats So yup I would go with
    http://www.onoffroad.com/Merchant2/m...IVE-LUBRICANTS
for sure .....I doubt the marine/boat stuff is going to have the friction modifiers you'll find in Dex111/IV stuff.....the MTF probably will shear on you.

I'm not questioning you, because I know you know alot. But I'm pretty sure the MTF torco fluid is Manual Transmission Fluid, which like he said, he has a M6...

LOL....yes I know that is why I put a smiley behind it.....but seriously the MTF is the recommended fluid for outboard (boat) motors because of its add pack. That add pack makes me nervous with GM T56 trannies.....that is why I recommend the DexIII/IV stuff as called for....but yes...the M is for manuals....I thought everybody would know so I made a "funny"...

I ended up using Mobil 1 syn ATF for my M6. I was initially going to go with Dextron VI b/c I had plenty left over from my Duramax/Allison transmission service. Went with Mobil 1 b/c that is what SixSpeedInc recommended. I will say the shifts felt significantly smoother after change and most of the ratchty feeling in the M6 was gone. M1 is hard to find but eventually found it at Oreilly's for $4.xx a quart. They had to order from their warehouse overnight.

Seriously I dont drink soda's....I fuck up some Shiner Bock though
I'm really not sure who around here drinks Dr. Pepper.....oh well.....as for the 5qt cointainers...WTF are you talking about? PP quart is like $4.98 per quart ( retail)and a 5 quart container is $19.95 (retail) Now I dont know what math your doing but my math tells me I just saved a $1 per quart.....stay away from my checkbook!
greatest part about me going to texas was discovering shiner bock. good stuff there.

My opinion on the filter subject is this.
Mobil1/KN are great filters and way over priced.
AC Delco/Purolator/WIX/NAPA/Purolator and Baldwins filter and flow so closely to the KN/Mobil1 that you cannot hardly differntate the results. But cost about 50% less.
SuperTech is a damn good little filter and you can use it safely with no worries for 3K oil change intervals. Damn thing is dirt cheap and is a nice filter. Fram suck ass and didnt filter worth a shit and is very poorly constructed.
Amsoil is the best filter period. Clear winner.

Hey Sarge, I am getting ready to order 4 Amsoil oil filters if this is still your

#1 oil filter choice. Please let me know. 2 for TA and 2 for Dodge B1500 Ram

Van. Any particular place you order from ?

    Thanks!

They are the best at flow and filtration....I order straight from Amsoil at Amsoil.com
If your going to order much over $100 worth of filter/oil over a years time...the preferred customer discount is worth it for sure....

IMO, Zeigenbock pwns Shinerbock. Similar dark beer, NO bitter aftertaste. Shiner blonde is greatness, though.

EDIT: Oh, and I use Mobil1 5w30. Made a noticable difference in my fiance's 4L V6 Explorer....smoother engine revs/idle and seemed to free up some power (over Motorcraft Synthetic Blend).

Ok.. Im switching to PP after about 2000 miles...... Its a lot cheaper at squalmart and apparently its pretty awesome.... what wierd is my grandpa sweared by the yellow bottle...he would only put that in our lawnmowers. We got the oldschool snappers like on forrest gump.... keep buying new engines when the old ones crap out.. and blasting the frames and repainting them..Kinda find it wierd after all these years the old man was right.

It proves my point about GM recommendations on oil right here. The same engine...and in the US GM recommends 5-30 and outside the US they recommend a heavier viscosity.
Tell me again CAFE/EPA doesn't play in these "recommendations".....

However with that point aside....the bearing clearances on a stock LSX engine would dictate a 50 weight as too thick. Wont hurt or kill your engine but is not protecting anymore than a 30 weight. Just losing power/performance and not gaining any additional protection at all.
I would challenge UOA comparison between a 30 weight and a 50 weight .....I have done it and wear metals are higher with the 50 weight.

I know Holden was recommedning a 40 weight for "severe driving"
Your tuner may know tuning but he knows shit about oil.

10w30 Valvoline racing oil and 1 quart of lucas. I ran the valvoline racing oil in my dirt track car. Car ran 240 degrees all the time. NEVER burnt the oil. Great oil and half the price of synthetic.
