    Oil Pressure

My 98 TA is stock LS1 auto with 87K on it and reads 20 lbs when warm at idle, and around 40 while driving. When cold it reads a little under 40 at idle. I had a 95 TA with a stock LT1 that did the exact same thing, it ran perfect up until it was totalled with over 160K on the original (not rebuilt) engine. So I'm assuming that 20 lbs at idle when warm is ok since that engine was still running great with that kind of mileage.

I had a car that read low with 165k miles on it. I put a new sending unit on it and it went up to 50 psi at warm idle. I mean most mechanics go for the simplest solutions first and then move on from there. To just jump to the worst senario( a bad oil pump) would not be logical. Tell the owner if they put a new sending unit on the car and the pressure increases somewhat then you will buy it-if they wont then move on.

I mean the part doesnt cost that much- offer to pay them back for the part if the oil pressure goes up somewhat when you buy the car. I made the same offer to a guy that had a z28 for sale-it has low pressure Like 5psi. When he refused I knew the car was a POS.

Mine is an A4 and runs around 35-60psi according to the gauge. As people have said before, I don't think the gauges in these cars can be relied upon with a great deal of accuracy. I believe there's a way to check the actual oil pressure which I would do before buying the car. You need to pay for it, not the guy you're buying it from (don't just offer to pay him for it, talk is cheap). It's just like asking to have the car inspected by a mechanic prior to buying it...... any seller with a brain cell isn't going to pay to have his car inspected with the hope you'll pay him for it.

You obviously don't read what you write. What does that say above? You're asking the SELLER to pay. Nuff said....

PAY FOR IT......Don't "offer to pay them back". That is the difference I'm talking about. Your "offer" probably doesn't mean anything to him. See?

The reason you have points against you I assume has to do with the name calling. I'm trying to offer help and you have an attitude.

Glad to see you finally understand. Have a nice day.

Oil psi is right on the 40 mark while idling hot.
