    Question Oil Pressure??

I recently changed my oil. 6 quarts of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic wit a mobil 1 filter. On the way home I noticed the pressure reading a lot higher than it had been. Before we changed it, the gauge usually never passed 60, but after the change, whenever I got on the gas the guage would climb nearly all the way to 80. I would let off as soon as I saw this occuring, but I need to know if this is normal if its too much oil in the car. The dipstick reads right at the tip of the grid, but I don't understand how the pressure climbs to 80 when I'm at about 4,500-5,000 rpms. When I'm at idle it sits at about 50 and cruises at 60-65.

    Any ideas???

Sounds like good oil pressure to me. 5.5 is the usual amount.

I wouldnt think so. I had a 84 HO z28 and the max on its gauge was 60psi which it ran at while idling. You may have about a half quart too much oil but that shouldnt hurt it. I mean think about it-it never read so high until the oil change right? sometimes its hard to see the exact level of oil on the stick so check it 3 times wiping off the dipstick inbetween every time you check it. What weight oil did you use this time? thicker oil will make the pressure go up a bit. Also I really wouldnt be too worried about it though.

I jus drained the 15w-50 I had in there. (Yeah, mistake). I replaced it with some 5w-30 Mobil 1 and I'm about to take it for a drive to check the pressure. Thanks for the help tho man.

AC delco filter here too... I'm curious how much oil did your engines take? mine took a little over 5 litres.
