Oil filter part # dosent match

I just recently purchased a 2001 trans am ws6 m6 and wanted to do an oil change first. When the part store looked up the k&n oil filter part # hp1007 it didn't fit. So I brought them the filter I removed from the car and it came back as hp1017 which is for a 2008 and up G8! Can anyone help me make sense of why that is?

    Welcome to the site!

Could be an incorrect filter listing.

You can use either the short or long filter on our cars. Some owners prefer the longer filter which is usually referred to as the "truck style" for its increased filter media. Either should have the proper thread and base circle to fit our cars. Maybe try a cross-match search between manufacturers to see if it is listed the same way.

Oil filter part # dosent match

I appreciate the welcoming and I was looking at some of the other post and this may be in the wrong area. But anyway I had two part stores cross reference the filter I removed from the car and they both came back the same. I'm not 100% it would just seem my engine has a different oil pan than other 01 cars.

Oil filter part # dosent match

I did some research and what I came up with is its a alternate part # on the oil pan for whatever reason. Are any ws6 cars running the hp1017?
