It has to be reset. Turn key to RUN, depress and hold the oil/trip reset button on the dash for a few seconds until it goes off - or turn key on, depress the gas pedal 3 times if you want to keep your trip mileage. Should be off next time you start the car. I don't use the GM oil life system to tell me when to change the oil - mine comes on long after it should IMO. Welcome to the board.

turn the key on like if u just want to listen to the radio or have the a-c on dont crank the car. and push the odometer trip button on the dash for like 10-15 seconds and it should go off.

I'v got an 01 ss and the dealer told me to turn the ignition to run and depress the gas three times then turn it off then back to run then off again and then start it and it went away.

We get alot of customers who think this light resets itself when the oil is changed-if the light comes on they think we didn't change their oil! It's a good system IMHO and I follow it. It changes according to how the vehicle is driven. I recently got a different job that is much closer to home, and so less fully warmed up driving, so it wanted it changed much sooner. Anyway with these cars you can do either the gas pedal or the button on the dash, they both work the same.
