oil change light acting retarded?

01 trans am m6 oil change light goes on and off, mainly comes on over 1800rpm and goes off below it. stays on for about a minute after i start it. normal? just did an oil change about 2 weeks ago, and didn't know it had a light to be reset. i have one in my truck, but it stays on constantly, at least until i reset it.

It's still coming on after you reset it? If turning the key on and holding the trip/oil reset on the dash for a few seconds until it flashes and goes off doesn't work - try turning the key on, then press the gas pedal slowly 3 or 4 times.

haven't reset it yet. was hoping to find out if the light was functioning properly first.

Staying on for a minute or so on start up is normal when the GM oil life system determines it's time to change the oil - shouldn't have anything to do with RPMs - I'd just reset it. Mine comes on waaayyyyy beyond the 3K mile mark if I forget to reset it.

It shouldnt be flashing-it will come on and stay on if it's telling you to change the oil.I'd reset it and let it go if it stays off-still it sounds like a malfunction,not sure what could be done about it.I'd change my oil at regular intervals instead of watching for the light until you can trust it again.

i'll probably reset it and see what happens. with my truck i go by the light, but with this car it's every 3000. i just wanted to make sure that it wasn't the car trying to tell me something.

I don't see why not, try the trip/oil reset button method - if if flashes and goes off it's probably reset. The car doesn't really know when you change the oil anyway.
