OBD 2 emissions test....
so I am in the market to buy an exhaust system and have a question before i spend the moula. My state where my car is registered ( new hampshire ) does OBD 2 emissions testing. They do not use a sniffer in the tail pipe. If i Go race style LT with ORY and have the car tuned will I fail an OBD 2 emissions test. Tried to look into the state laws and regs but they are very vague. any help would be great thanks.

I think if they only use an OBD2 scanner they can't see the tuned out codes.

thats what i was thinking too but the state reg. said something along the lines of downloading and logging information. Ill pull it back up and post it.

always dirty- 2013 Ram 2014 Caddy ATS
NH has the same as NY. If they do a visual they will fail the ORY and any other emissions devices that are removed. If tuned it will pass the OBD II check when they hook up to the computer.

hmm might be a 30 rack and extra 20$ on the side then for the visual.

If you get the O2's tuned out, you will be fine. All they are basically doing is reading the voltage the O2's are putting out, and getting them tuned puts the voltage to read the same as having Cats

how do high flow cats stack up against an ORY? Obv the ORY will flow better but by how much?

Long tubes and/or aftermarket cats won't pass the visual in Cali.

i dont need to pass california inspection, i need to pass new hampshire's. My car stays registered there because i kept it as my home of record when i enlisted.

im not to overly concerned with the visual inspection. Enough drunkards with inspection licenses to defeat that. Just might take some time. Really, Lts are illegal in all 50 states?!

as far as the emissions goes all the shop that i got to does is hook an OBD 2 scanner up and ensure there are no fault codes for the emissions equipment on board.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
FYI, my 02 passes OBDII here in the PHX cuz all the station I go to does is plug it in (no visual) and no codes = you passed! They don't even open the hood.
But like INMY01TA states moving (or removing) the cat location violates Fed law. At least in Cali it does (I'm from LA)...
FWIW, check my sig for the 02...Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 06-09-2011 at 07:01 PM.

If your state requires a smog test, the first part is the visual, and if you fail that, you will never get to the second part of the test.
In California, the reason LT are illegal (for smog purposes) is that they change the position of the stock catalytic (sp) converters.
