    Not running on all cylinders??

So I was getting ready to install my headers today.. until my friend started up the car and I guess it didn't sound right to him..

Some how he came to the conclusion that it wasn't running on all cylinders..

So we took his little heat gun, and aimed at every cylinder and all of them were running at around 290 degrees EXCEPT for cylinder #8, which was running at like 140.

What we're thinking is, when the previous owner changed the spark plugs, the just left the #8 one in there because they didn't feel like doing it, and it's bad.

Could that be it? I've never changed the spark plugs/wires on the car, I got it about 2 months ago and it has around 86k on it.

Dunno, I'd think you'd be throwing codes if #8 wasn't firing correctly. If you don't have a scan tool pull it and see what it looks like, or swap that plug/wire/coil with another one and see if it makes a difference.

Well it's working but not like it should I think, it was running at around at 140 so I think it was working some what, just not fully.. I think I would need to change the plugs/wires anyway just as a kind of basic maintenance.. And hopefully that will fix the problem..

You need to pull some of the plugs to do the headers so start the header install and remove the #8 plug when the exhaust is out of the way. It's much easier. You might have a bad wire or cracked plug or maybe the platinum puck is missing and the gap is really big.

Puck was missing on mine... havent been changed since 1998. Change plugs are wires and turn it loose!

ya if you are going to do headers do the plugs and wires since you are in there. and the plug could very well be the problem.

Ok good.. sorry it took so long for me to reply..

I'm HOPING that is gonna fix the problem.. but I'll have who ever does my header install change the plugs/wires at the same time then..

If changing the plugs / wires does not fix the problem, what else could it be?

possibly a mechanical problem with cylinder #8 like a messed up valve or bad rings etc... #8 and #7 I think have been known to have problems with lean conditions.

think positive. Most likely it is something simple like plugs or wires, especially if they're original. Being a 99 you have to have some miles on them. Even if it's low miles they're 9 years old going on 10.

yeah lol it's hard though my car hs ~86k on it right now... I just went and picked up some ac delco plugs and autolite wires.. auto lites were the only ones they had in stock... so hopefully those will be good enough.. the ac delco iridium and ngk iridium were same price and the guy told me they were the same so I just went with ac delco
