    Noise ?

Alright i know there are tons of noises ls1 motors make... well i have ticking noise between 1000-2000 rpm (still might be there after 2000 but cant really hear it) it is a very faint tick that sounds similar to the piston slap, just not as loud. The tick has been there since i bought the car and i have put 2k miles on it with no difference in sound.

The car is a stock A4 trans am with exhaust.. no motor mods at all

does anyone have any idea ? should i be worried about this?

Little far for me, but there should be a lot of members up there to listen, for a second opinion.
If it's a single loud tap, it could be one bent push rod too.
If it sounds like a singer sewing machine... That's normal... LOL

its a steady noise that seems to get faster with rpm but does not seem to get louder. I think i am just over worried about this (never had a noisy motor before). It is very faint and can only be heard when you are light on the gas, mostly around the 1500 rmp range. My neighbor has a 2000 ss camaro and he told me not to worry but i would just like to get a second opinion.

I agree, it might be nothing, but I'd still have a few LS1 guys listen to it. If you get down this way, I'd listen to it !!! I've heard about every noise these things can make now ! LOL

Most likely it is normal, but I'd have to actually hear it to confirm. How many miles are on your new toy?

Is it louder when the engine is cold? If so, sounds like the piston slap these engines make, some are a little worse than others, but it causes no other issues besides noise.

86,000 miles..... and it is a little louder when its cold... is it ok to run the car before warm up with the piston slap? I am tired of waiting in the car for it to warm up haha, i just dont want to cause any problems.

Piston slap or no piston slap, it is OK to drive the car before it reaches normal operating temperature. However, do not drive it hard or "get on it" until it reaches normal op. temp., just drive it smooth and easy.

I have a 99 t/a and when i turned about 87k my motor started a ticking. I took it in and turned out that i hade a bent pushrod that caused a rocker to go bad and i also had 5 collapsed lifters. The car ran like a cheetah with hitops. I was runnin a 13.5 the whole time. i finally got it fixed, all new ls7 lifters, pushrods, rockers, 243 heads, ls6 intake, ls6 cam. When its down, thats a good time to slap on the goodies.
