The only thing you can do is jack up the car and lightly tap on it with a hammer and screwdriver. If the car turns over afterward, your starter's toast.

This could be related to your other thread. It may be possible your fuel pump took a shit. Also, you mentioned you just swapped out the fuel filter. Did you kink a line? Leaking any fuel?

Just b/c your fuel pump is making noise, that doesn't mean it's pressurizing.

I'd check the pressure at the rails incase of what 35th mentioned.

Honestly I hope it's related to my other thread. The starter isn't even clicking though. If it was the pump it would turn and not fire but it's not turning. Line wasn't kinked for sure the underbelly on this California car is in great shape all the lines loosened really easy etc.

    Have you checked fuses/relays?

    No security light, right?

security light on? If so it's vats. If not it could be stuck solenoid on the starter or a starter relay.

No securitylight. I just got home sadly I couldn't take the ss out butbi got home now and gave it a try and it fired right up. A few minutes ago I had to run out again and no start again. The first time I did unlock the door manually as well but not sure if that has anything to do with anything.

I cleaned the key.I have a spare which I'll try when I get home. I noticed the little chip has very very slight movement in the key. Normal?

When I turn the key I hear a faint tick which sounds like it's coming from the fuse/relays drivers side engine compartment.

Went out for a drive came back and tried again no luck.. im screwed if I cant get to work tomorrow. Anyone got any ideas? I swapped the relays for the starter with the ignition although I realize one wouldnt work without the other :/ still no go. I found my spare ignition key and still no luck so its probably not the chip being bad unless its inside the ignition on the column.

Im about to with this car

no and sometimes that will cause a problem. The chip is not supposed to move, but alot of them do as they age.

Ok guys you should read this !! If it ever happens to you it might help. I found this thread on LS1tech from googling no-start ls1 camaro:

    http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...ont-start.html

The youtube video the op put up is EXACTLY the same problem I am having and I watched the video and wondered what the hell he was doing holding on to the iginition in the run position for so long for. Turns out it started.. here's his Video:
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJcuBm0UFMk&feature=player_embedded[/ame]

SO, i went outside and decided to try it for myself.. and sure enough IT STARTED !! Just like the video 30 seconds later or so of holding the key in the run position it fired right up. I drove it around and got it hot and came home and it started like 10x in a row. I dont think problem is solved but I am guessing like the op in the thread I linked my starter is on the way out. I will price them out tomorrow and grab one soon if this occurs just once more.

thanks everyone for the input !

one way to find out if it is the starter for sure is to check if you have 12v at the starter solenoid wire. If you can get someone to the turn and hold the key in the start position the voltmeter should show 12v or the test light will light up. If this happens your starter solenoid is most likely bad. If you don't get a reading then you have issues with power to the starter solenoid.

Great to know I'll look into checking that. Where is the solenoid? Right on the starter?

After watching the video clip, I had a similar problem like that with my 96' Firebird. I thought it was VATS, starter, relays, everything. Turn out it was the tumbler that the key goes into. There are 2 pressure mounts inside of it that touches the chip and closes the circuit for the VATS to work. I had to take it apart and re-solder the connections. After that no problems ever again. I'm not saying this is your exact problem, just something that I know that has happen to me and a fix.

This used to happen in my old car. No problem with starter it was the ignition system mainly reading the incorrect key code.
