No start problem
I'm having a problem with my 94 camaro, it no longer will start. It started and drove fine yesterday, I parked it over night, and now all it will do is crank. It won't start and theres no spark. I was wondering if there was anything simple to check before I have to have it towed to a shop. Thanks.

It is a v8. I have a couple more questions that maybe you guys could answer. How can you test to see if it is the optispark? How much is a new one if it is bad? And how hard is it to replace? Is it something that is a big hastle and easier just to take it to a shop or pretty simple that someone with some experience could easily manage? Thanks for all the help.

Also, is it weird that it ran fine one day, parked it over night, and the next morning nothing? Is there anything else it could be?

it takes 3 things for an engine to run fuel, spark, and fuel/spark at the right time. Verify you have spark and then verify fuel pressure. Sounds like it's one of those. They make spark testers but you can also pull a plug wire off and let it arc to the block to check for spark. This is best done at night so you can see it arc mroe easily. Fuel pressure you can test with a gauge that run about $20 or less from any autoparts store.

Diagnostic Aids
An EGR valve sticking open can cause a low air/fuel ratio during cranking.
Unless the engine enters Clear Flood at the first indication of a flooding condition, a no start may result.
Check the duct work between the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the throttle body for air leaks.
A malfunctioning MAF sensor may cause a no start or a stall after start. If this is suspected, disconnect the MAF sensor. The PCM will default to speed density (MAP, IAT, RPM) to calculate load and air flow. If this corrects the condition and the connections are OK, replace the MAF sensor.
