you can check to see if it's the clutch SS by removing it and conecting the two wires together that go into the CSS and turning the car on... just make sure it's out of gear before you start it!!!

Thanks guys ! Im going to check the starter for power and then try connecting the clutch switch together.

If it is the ignition lock how can I remove it and check the wires inside? I think that its probably the issue here. Just a guess though will know soon enough !

Dang hope it's the starter. I just picked up a new one for $110 and I can return it if I test mine and it's fine. Should be home soon to get started. I have a feeling when I go home it's gonna fire up before I can even start trying to fix it

    Possible breakthrough???!!!

Guys I taped the key into the run position and got underneath and put my test meter and I'm seeing 12.5 volts or so. I'm putting the lead on the power cable the thick one. Does this mean it's getting power?

Actually I just realized the clutch pedal isn't pushed in I'll try to find something to hold it down..

Ok I held the clutch in with a rod and retested. Big power cable on starter shows 12.23v. When I put it to the smaller cable it shows 12.18v

Does this mean my starter is toast? Or the solenoid? I hope so!

Report back after new starter install but it seems you've found your problem

I do hope so but knowing my luck it won't be it :/ will make the connections to the new starter pretty soon and try cranking to see if it spins before I bolt it up.

Before I started I just jumped the old starter from the battery.. It spins fine this mean it was good or still possible the solenoid is bad?

I connects the new one and didn't bolt it up because of getting it dirty. The alternator guy promised a refund if it didn't work so I just used a jumper cable and grounded the battery... I cranked and I hear it turning!!!!!

How does one starter spin but not work in the car? Solenoid?

There are times when the bendix doesn't push the starter gear all the way out to engage the flywheel. You will hear a "click" followed by a "hummmm". Or, the brushes in the starter just wear out and the starter seizes in the casing.

Also...if the solenoid goes...you won't hear anything at all. Not even a click.

Great news and some bad news !

Bad news is the starter doesnt bolt up. I knew he was cross referencing something but the casing was different than the correct part # but very close. It wont bolt up because there is a 'tab' on the block that sticks out preventing it from doing so.

I connected the new starter originally and grounded it with a booster cable while it hung and turned the key. I can hear the motor whirring. I figured while I'm at it when it didnt fit I coinnected the old starter while it was dangling and no go. no whirring. Just now I decided to triple check I connected the new starter while hanging and grounded it the same way.. and it spins... SO i believe the starter IS the problem because the old one is non responsive. Tomorrow after work Ill grab the correct one and slap her in and hopefully everything will be perfect

Much thanks for the input guys. I hope tomorrow the car is running 100% !
