New msd wire install
I'll be changing the original spark plug wires for MSD 8.5's this weekend. Just wondering if I should use the original heat shields that are on the original wires now or put the new wires on without the old shields. Thanks.

I bought sleeves for my plug wire install in lieu of utilizing the stock metal shields. Remember -- you want to hear a "double click" as you install each wire on its coil.

I'd use the heat shields if they fit. Not going to hurt anything and will only keep those expensive wires safe!

If I buy the MSD wires do they come complete ready to hook right on or do I have to splice the wires?

Except if you have headers. Then you may need to bend the boots to gain sufficient clearance. I installed my wires and 2 or 3 were either touching or almost touching the headers. I never realized that you could bend them and that they would retain the shape.

I purchased heat sleeves AND kept the heat shields when I changed out the wires, the more protection from heat the better.

Thanks for the advice guys. I installed them using the stock metal shields. Actually I still have two more to do...on the drivers side.
