New ls1 owner need help with mods

Hello all I recently picked up a bone stock 1999 Trans Am (auto) and am looking to start with some minor mods. I ordered my SLP air lid and K&N air filter, in the mean time what are the free mods that can be done. I keep hearing there are several things that can be done for free but not sure what they are. I ahve been a mustang guy for years and this is my first LS1 so bare with me! thanks for the help guys/gals

Cancel the order for the K&N and go with a paper type filter, works the same and without the oil and garbage.
I would first start with a complete tune up.
All fluids and filters, oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter, Transmission fluid and filter, rear end fluid. Flush the Radiator etc etc..

changed the oil yesterday Mobile 1 5w30 and filter, going to do the trans fluid and filter this weekend, and flush the radiator. Is going with a 160 T-stat worth it in these cars or should I leave the stock one?

Some will say the 160 is worth it. Im on either side of that fence. You have to change your fan setting to turn on a 160. So, putting a 160 stat is doing nothing with out someone changing the fan settings. Just so you know.

And yes, leave your MAF alone.

I know you said free mods, but since your an auto, start looking for and saving for a 3,200-3,600 stall, and headers. those two mods will make you very happy and have you close to being ready for your future head cam swap that we all know you will want in a year or two
