need info on air pump

need info on air pump. what it is, what it does, why it makes noise, how to fix noise. can it just be removed

Ok here is some basic information. The AIR pump is just that, it pumps air in to the exhaust stream to help with diluting the emissions till the motor reaches operating temperatures.

It makes noise fo various reasons, its powerd by an electric motor now I think as opposed to a belt, its basicly a blower/compressor to force the air in, not much can be done to fix the noise which should only last about 5 minutes if that.

It can be removed provided the codes are tuned out and all passages are blocked off and you can do it legally.

what it does is pump your catalytic converter with fresh oxygen so it can perform correctly in changing your exhaust gasses. you wont see any gains if you remove it seeing how it is electric like mentioned above and not driven off the crank. it only runs a lil bit. hell i still have mine and dont have any plans to remove it, even after going with a new cam and heads
