need help with 98 trans am
Ok I am new here so if i posted this wrong.... i apologize..anyhow i am having alot of problems with a 98 trans am i bought 3 years ago....I try to accelerate and the car literally chokes and i hear a popping noice under the headers like popcorn, whenever i try and accelerate....The RPM's wont go past 3 and when i try to force it, the car acts as if it cant breathe and almost turns off unless i let go off the gas. I changed the gas filter and it got a little better, but still it doesn't have the power it had.I have taken my car to different mechanics but no one can figure out whats wrong with it...my fuel pump is still good and i have no clue what it could be...please help

Sounds like poor fuel pressure/volume under load. Has anybody checked this? That would be the first thing I would check. I have worked at Goodyear as a driveability tech for 18 years. It is easy ....

I have seen a ton of cases like you describe and have always seen them using a reusable air filter that was over oiled and coated the MAF with oil. Re clean the filter, clean the MAF with denatured alcohol, an re oil the filter lightly. Enjoy
