Thread: My ss died.

    My ss died.

    Hey guys. I need some help. My car dnt want to start. Everithing was ok.
    Few weeks ago the starter started messing up on me.
    But everytime that happened. I pushed it to start it.
    Now it doesn't make no noise at all. Lights are on. I pushed start it and nothing.
    Sounds Like it wants to start but then it dies.
    Kinda sounds Like is not getting Any gas.
    I hit the gas pedal. N still it dies.
    Any ideas?

    The fuel filter has like 3000 miles on it.
    I dnt think is that.
    I think it could be the gas pump. Cuz for the last 3 times the gas level was very low.
    But I put gas last nite and everything was fine.

    Yea I would def say it has to do something with your pump then if your fuel filter has been changed.

    If you drive it on E alot of times, then most likely, the pump went to ish. The fuel in the tank acts as a lubricant/coolant for the pump.

    That makes sense never thought about it that away, but I have always heard if you run your car on E all the time it will mess up your pump.

    Yep. The first question my tuner asked me prior to dynoing my car was how often I ran the tank to E.

    It makes sense cause it would have alot to do with the fuel pressure and everything it should be having but it could possibly not. I normally try to keep it no less than inbetween the 1/4 and E but you know sometimes you dont get what you always want.

    Damn then is so much coincidence they both died at the same time.

    I thought it could be a relay too. Cuz it doesn't sound like it want to start or anything

    It def could be because if the pump had to strain to push the needed fuel threw a dirty fuel filter then def could shorten the life of it, or what cammed goat has stated.

    I try to keep my gas gauge just above the red before E when I fill up.

    what does it do when you turn the key over? Also, before I spent the time/money on a fuel pump I'd buy a $20 gauge and verify the pressure first.

    I wanted to check the pressure first.
    It doesn't do anything al all.
    I dnt hear the starter or anything.
    Few days ago when the starter was giving me problems. I could hear it.
    But not this time.

    do the lights come on and things like that? Do you hear the pump prime when you first turn the key? When the starter was giving you problems what did it do? Is the security light on your dash staying on solid or flashing?

    All the lights come on
    When the switch is on. The security light is blinking.
    I could hear the gas pump. But I think the noise used to be louder before. I'm not sure.
    When the starter was giving me problems I could the starter making noise.

    And I just push the car to start it. But this time it don't do anything.

    this is what tells me it's a vats issue......

    If you are pushing the car to start it, that sounds like the neutral safety switch is on its way out.
